S.S. War Baron (British Freighter, 1917)
Probably in the vicinity of Portland, Oregon, at the time of
her completion, circa mid-1917.
War Baron, the first ship built by the Williamette Iron
& Steel Works, of Portland, was constructed on British account.
The 13th Naval District inspected her on 29 June 1917. Assigned
the Navy ID # 1641, she was still operating under the British
flag in December 1917 and was not taken over for U.S. Navy service.
