Admiral James L. Holloway, III, USN,
Chief of Naval Operations (at right)
Meets with the Navy's principal Commanders in Chief, in his Pentagon
office in late July 1974, a month after he became CNO. A wide
range of issues were discussed during two days of consultations,
including fleet operations and training, personnel, and ship
and weapon systems development programs. "Knowing the vast
experience and responsibility these officers represent,"
Admiral Holloway remarked, "I considered it essential that
I have their views as I analyze the status of the Navy today
and begin charting our course for the future."
