"8100 Ton 5" Cruiser (Double Purpose) Design Study"


Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during the development of the "CLD", an abortive design for a light cruiser with a main battery of 5"/54 guns.
This plan, dated 28 November 1940, is for a ship with a standard displacement of 8100 tons (9950 tons trial displacement) and a main battery of sixteen 5"/54 guns. Its length is 570', beam is 59' and draft 20' 3". Powerplant has 100,000 horsepower for a speed of 33.5 knots.
Scale of the original drawings is 1/32" = 1'.

The original plan is in the 1939-1944 "Spring Styles Book" held by the Naval Historical Center.
