"Proposed Conversion of CA 68 Class to CV"

Preliminary design plan prepared for the General Board during consideration of aircraft carrier conversions of other types of warships.
This plan, dated 4 June 1942 (the date of the Battle of Midway!), depicts a ship generally similar to the later Saipan (CVL-48) class, but with less freeboard.
Scale of the original drawings is 1/32" = 1'.

The original plan is in the 1939-1944 "Spring Styles Book" held by the Naval Historical Center.
