Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Thomas J. Hudner, Jr., was the first Navyman to receive the Medal of Honor during the Korean War. The medal was awarded for his heroic attempt to rescue Ensign Jesse L. Brown, a fellow pilot in his squadron whose plane had crashed in North Korea. President Harry S. Truman presented the Medal of Honor to Lt(JG) Hudner in ceremonies at the White House on 13 April 1951.
