Chipper (American Motor Boat, 1909).
Served as USS Chipper (SP-1049) in 1917-1919

Chipper, a 56-foot motor pleasure boat, was built at Morris Heights, New York, in 1909. The Navy leased her for World War I service in July 1917, placing her in commission as USS Chipper (SP-1049) within a few days. Initially assigned to patrol duty at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was subsequently employed as a ferry at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. Chipper was transferred to the Fifth Naval District in March 1918 and in August of that year was reported at the Naval Air Station at Washington, D.C. She was returned to her owners in March 1919.

This page features the only views we have concerning the motor boat Chipper, which was USS Chipper (SP-1049) in 1917-1919.
