Tarantula, a 160 gross ton motor yacht, was built in 1912 at Neponset, Massachusetts. She was leased by the Navy in April 1917 for World War I service. Commissioned as USS Tarantula (SP-124) and assigned to the Third Naval district, she operated in the New York City area until sunk in a collision with the steamship Frisia on 28 October 1918, eight miles from the Fire Island light vessel. Her owner was subsequently paid $75,000 to cover Tarantula's value.
This page features all the views we have concerning the yacht Tarantula and USS Tarantula (SP-124).
