    View looking forward from the bridge on 10 September 1943, while the ship was in Salerno Bay, Italy, during the Allied landings there. Several LSTs and other ships are in the distance.

    A British motor torpedo boat officer (Lieutenant, Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve) and an Italian submarine commander descend the gangway after a visit to USS Ancon (AGC-4), the invasion force flagship.
    Note the small pistol holster worn by the Italian officer, who may be the commanding officer of the submarine Nichelio.
    Photo is dated 12 September 1943, but may have been taken a few days earlier.
