USS PCS-1450, 1944-1947

USS PCS-1450, a 136-foot submarine chaser, was built at Manitowoc, Wisconsin. After completion and transit down the Mississippi River, she was placed in full commission in early February 1944. She made a shakedown and training cruise in the Caribbean Sea, then was assigned to duty as a patrol and escort ship operating between Key West, Florida, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In June 1945, after the end of World War II in Europe had ended the need for anti-submarine activity in the Atlantic area, PCS-1450 was sent to the Pacific. She served in the Hawaiian Islands from late July 1945 until the beginning of February 1946 and was converted for survey employment following her return to the U.S. mainland. Decommissioned in August 1946, USS PCS-1450 was transferred to the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. She was stricken from the list of Naval vessels in February 1947.
