USS PT-105, an 80-foot ELCO type motor torpedo boat, was placed in service in late June 1942, assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron FIVE. Following training along the U.S. East Coast, she served in the Panama area until spring 1943, when she was carried by ship to the Solomon Islands, in the south Pacific. Based at Rendova, near contested New Georgia Island, from July 1943, PT-105 was present during an action with Japanese destroyers in Blackett Strait on the night of 1-2 August. On the 22nd of that month, she participated in a daylight raid on the Kolombangara coast that provoked a considerable fight between U.S. PT boats and enemy coastal guns.
With the rest of her squadron, PT-105 continued in action in the Solomons and Admiralties well into 1944. Following further service in the New Guinea area, she was transferred to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron EIGHTEEN in mid-February 1945 and completed the Pacific War in the Philippines. Rendered surplus to requirements by Japan's surrender, PT-105 was placed out of service and destroyed at the beginning of November 1945.
