USS Reposo II (SP-198), 1917-1919.
Previously the steam yacht Sophia, Empress, Onondaga, Turbese and Reposo II

USS Reposo II, a 157 gross ton steam yacht, was built in 1882 as Sophia. Later renamed Empress, she was enlarged in 1902 and given the name Onondaga. Her name was subsequently changed to Turbese and then to Reposo II. The Navy acquired her in April 1917 and placed her in commission in May. During the remainder of 1917 and the first months of 1918 she was employed on patrol duties off Florida and Georgia. Thereafter she was stationed at Charleston, South Carolina, where she decommissioned in December 1918. USS Reposo II was sold in August 1919.

This page features all the views we have of USS Reposo II, and of her as a civilian yacht prior to World War I.

Note: The Ships' Histories Branch of the Naval Historical Center holds one other pre-World War I photograph of the steam yacht Turbese (later renamed Reposo II). The view is very similar to Photo Number 102159 (seen above), but was taken from somewhat further aft (though it is still a starboard bow view).
