USS Steady, a 890-ton Auk class minesweeper, was built at Cleveland, Ohio. Commissioned in November 1942, she deployed to the Western Mediterranean in April 1943 and operated in that area until November 1944. During that time, Steady supported the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Southern France as a convoy escort and minesweeper. In February 1945, she went to the Pacific and was active off Okinawa from May until the War ended. During August-December 1945, she swept mines from Japan to China.
Steady returned to the United States in early 1946 and was decommissioned in June of that year. In 1955, while in reserve, she was redesignated MSF-118. Sold to Taiwan in 1967, USS Steady was struck from the Navy list in February 1968. She served in the Republic of China Navy as the patrol ship Ping Jin until inactivated in the mid-1990s.
