Sultana, a 390 gross ton steam yacht built at Erie Basin, New York, in 1889, was leased by the Navy in May 1917 and placed in commission as USS Sultana (SP-134). She transited the Atlantic to France in June 1917, arriving at Brest in early July after having rescued survivors of the torpedoed American ship Orleans. For the rest of World War I Sultana was employed on patrol and escort service along the French west coast. She returned to the United States by way of the Azores and Bermuda in December 1918. USS Sultana was stricken from the Navy list in February 1919 and returned to her owner.
This page features all the views we have related to USS Sultana (SP-134) and the civilian yacht Sultana.

taken at the same time as Photo # NH 96642 (seen above). This
view is somewhat tighter on the bow than NH 96642, and is disfigured
by a diagonal crack in its lower left center and by two holes
punched at its top. |
