  • Approximately 10% of Chatham’s population is disabled. 
  • According to the 1990 census, 1,445 persons in the county were identified as having mobility limitations.   
  • Housing for the disabled is a growing concern, particularly with the disappearance of federal funding to support group homes for the disabled and state cutbacks in long-term care facilities for developmentally disabled adults that will result in a return of disabled count residents to local communities.  
  • Chatham has strong coordination between organizations that serve the disabled.
