Orange County, North Carolina, is part of the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. Municipalities include Chapel Hill, home of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, our nation’s first state university; Carrboro, a former railroad and mill town; and Hillsborough, the county seat and host city for the historic Constitutional Convention of 1788. Covering roughly 400 square miles of land, most of which is undeveloped, Orange County is comprised of acres of lush foliage, gently rolling hills, and scenic wooded areas, in addition to bustling urban districts. Orange citizens’ concern for the natural environment is evident in local ordinances to preserve trees, scenic greenways for pedestrians, curbside recycling programs, numerous bicycle lanes, and the clean surroundings they seek to maintain.
