  • While Chatham is rich in rural natural resources for recreation, citizens describe a lack of recreation and leisure activities, particularly for middle school and teenagers, as detracting from good health and quality of life.  The issue of teens getting into trouble with drugs, crime, AIDS, and pregnancy as an result of lack of social and recreational opportunities was the 3rd most common response in focus groups.
  • Churches are key social and recreational sources for members of the community from all corners, all age groups, and all walks of life in Chatham.
  • For a rural county with a small population, Chatham has many strengths and great capacity to develop social and recreational activities in-county, and citizens can take advantage of recreational programs and events in surrounding counties.
  • Most of the recreational facilities in Chatham are located in Siler City and Pittsboro.
