Purpose: The School of Nursing is committed to the improvement of the health and well-being of clients through teaching, research, and service. Professional Degrees: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Education: BSN: Two years of pre-nursing coursework / Two years of upper division nursing coursework MSN: Undergraduate degree from accredited university / 4 5 semesters nursing curriculum (up to 10 for part-time students) Experiential Component:: BSN: Year 1: Clinical experience 10 12 hours per week in areas of psychology, community, adult health, pediatrics, and women’s health Year 2: Clinical experience 12 16 hours per week in areas described above MSN: Intensive clinical practice in specialty areas, including adult & geriatric health, health care systems, neonatal or pediatric nursing, primary care, psychiatric-mental health nursing, and women's health. At the undergraduate level, clinical sites are selected for convenience and to provide students with the widest range of nursing experiences. At the graduate level, preceptors are chosen to provide students with experience in their specialty areas and within certain patient populations. Roles of the Nursing Students: The roles of nursing students during their clinical experiences include direct patient care (both generalist and advanced practice), health teaching, health promotion, case management, clinical research, and health policy development. |
