Purpose: The School of Pharmacy is dedicated to the education and training of students with a focus on pharmaceutical care for patients and the improvement of patient health outcomes. Professional Degree: Doctor of Pharmacy, Pharm.D. Education: Two years of pre-pharmacy coursework Four years of pharmacy school (PY1 through PY4 years) Experiential Component: The Pharm.D. curriculum provides 10 months of practice experience in clerkships. May after PY1 year - 1 month Introduction to Community/Hospital Pharmacy Clerkship July after PY2 year - 1 month Advanced Community/Hospital Pharmacy Clerkship June to April of PY4 year - 8 months Includes an advanced community/hospital pharmacy clerkship and required clerkships in general medicine, ambulatory care, medicine specialty as well as various elective opportunities All clerkships are full time, calendar month learning experiences primarily in pharmacy practice settings. Students are given elective opportunities (e.g. nuclear pharmacy, drug information) during the PY4 clerkships. Students also may choose a practicum in a non-traditional environment (e.g. industry, veterinary practice, FDA). Roles of the Pharmacy Students: |

The roles of Pharmacy students during their clerkship include interviewing and counseling patients, filling prescriptions, compounding medications, reviewing patient charts, evaluation medication regimens, monitoring outcomes of drug therapy, and screening for drug interactions and compliance problems. |
