Dairy muck is best worked into the soil, as the N will largely be lost
through volatisation within three days of it being spread (Zimmer). Best to
disk it into the surface layer. Look forward to your design for LCE.

Hi Stephen,
I do have LCE in mind and have an affordable design on paper. It is a good
alternative for a grower with large volumes of compost. In my new
neighborhood, which is predominantly dairy/hay/alfalfa operations the
farmers pile up the stable cleanings where generally the pile just sits for
a time without turning. This is then mixed with water into large tanks and
then spread on the fields or else it is delivered by irrigation gun. I can
attest to the foul odor indicating that this is not composted (aerobically)
but the soil handles it because it is spread on the surface rather than
mixed into the soil. The surface microbes rapidly degrade the organic matter
into plant available nutrient. The result is bumper crops of organic hay to
feed the cows.
