Evan,
I would just be cautious in making any claims beyond the fact that there is=
foam
or that the color changes. What actual plant benefit does the foam or colo=
r
change actually confer? And again, I'm not commenting on the efficacy of y=
our
product, as I've used the tonic to grow wheatgrass. I haven't experimente=
d
with how the color of my tea affects it's quality, but I have seen very lit=
tle
to show foam as being anything more than an innocuous occurrence (Tim Wilso=
n has
had similar results).
Been following your conversation with Tim and find it quite interesting. I=
'm
not convinced on the perpetual brew being better than a brew of 24-36 hours=
,
though I do see your case for increased protozoa in increasing the amount o=
f
ionic nutrients....makes sense. However, when I brew for a long time, I lo=
se
the fungi and end up with flagellates and bacteria of similar morphology, w=
hich
tend to fluctuate up and down (flagellates will dominate when bacterial
populations get too large, then die off when bacterial numbers get too low)=
.
You rarely see monocultures in Nature, and they tend to be associated with=
disease, when one organism dominates an environment. Since ACT is a shotgu=
n
approach, and there is so much still for us to learn, I've always leaned to=
ward
the side of diversity and nutrient cycling (greatest concentrations of
organisms, rapidly reproducing and consuming each other).
But again, this is a bit of a stab in the dark based on my own experiences.=
I'd
love to see more data on this as well....
~Tad

Subject: [compost_tea] Re: Sea Minerals as a Food Source
Please let me clarify. I am not at all saying foam or solution color define=
biological relevance. I am saying that, all ingredients being the same exce=
pt
for the Tonic variable, that these are an indication of this, also being
verified under the microscope. Sea water is not a colored (i.e. humic) subs=
tance
and would not alter the color of the solution. And, yes, foam can be contro=
lled
using various means, but, again, when all other variables are the same save=
1
tbsp of a clear sea mineral solution there is no other variable to account =
for
these occurrences, again, when verified under the microscope. When we get o=
ur
camera for the scope I will post images..
