Concerning Wood Chips:

The soilandhealth group recently posted a very good link to a video that is=
related to wood chips and compost:

http://www.backtoedenfilm.com/

The secret seems to be, not to work the wood chips too deep in the soil, b=
ecause as has been stated it will tie up too much nitrogen. Just keep them=
on top as a mulch, and let them break down slowly. It has been my experie=
nce that this takes several years. And as the microbes which break down th=
e wood chips multiply they attract worms. It appears that they breakdown f=
aster the second and and third year with the increase of microbes. Just as=
depicted in the video, I have been able to weed very easily where I have u=
sed the wood chips for three years. Not so in the same soils where I have =
used manure and compost.
