[compost_tea] wood chips compost and ants
Hi Dick has the using of wood chips for you not lead to ant problems?
I have an existing termite & black ant problem that will probably explode w=
ith w/chip use.
Im currently doing a trial on some trees & grapes that im mulching with ver=
mi cast to see if it will keep the ant population down
and so reduce other pests indirectly like scale. If I had enough id do the =
lawn as well unfortunatly ive a couple of months to go before I can start g=
etting substantial amounts from my new flowthrough worm bin. Our rains are =
just starting now so just the right time to get compost tea spraying.
Got a meggage that Tim's DVD set has arrived at the post office, cant wait =
to collect it and start browsing. Our microscope addition has been invaluab=
le, keeps the kids facinated as well, just wish I could get locally a monit=
or/PC attachment for it.
Cheers all

From: Edward . It has been my experience that this takes several years. A=
nd as the microbes which break down the wood chips multiply they attract wo=
rms. It appears that they breakdown faster the second and and third year wi=
th the increase of microbes. Just as depicted in the video, I have been abl=
e to weed very easily where I have used the wood chips for three years. Not=
so in the same soils where I have used manure and compost.
