RES: [compost_tea] Re: pH for Fungi

Hi Jeff,

Flames are only good if they can bring together some

light with them.

No, I am not interested in flaming anything but to enlighten

myself and other people in this list as much as possible.

Interesting point. Sort of : which one came first the egg or the

chicken ?. Does fungi “causes” a lower pH or a lower pH

causes fungi to grow better.

Dr Elaine could rescue us from this question but in the meantime I would

only use alkaline humates after making sure the resulting pH would be

a neutral one (7) after adding enough acetic acid ( vinegar ) to neutralize

it in a separate bucket before adding to the compost tea medium.

Non Flamable Jose

Jose,

I am not starting a flame here.

I am not ready to say a lower pH makes better fungal teas. I say this because there is good fungal, just as there are good bacteria all across the spectrum of pH, within range.I agree fungi do best in lower pH (or do they create it?) . However, since we are really only growing the fungi in the tea, not "breeding" them, doesn't it make sense that they will do well in a range of pH as long as there is nutrient for themWe have to make this as easy as possible

So I guess my question/comment has to do with the range and tolerance of fungi growth to pH.

Cheers,

Jeff L
