GBlist: More on water recycling/The "Etaperenser"

Firstly many thanks to all those who responded to our message on domestic
rainwater filtration systems. Everyone's information and assistance on the
subject was greatly appreciated.

Some of you have asked further about the "Etaperenser" water filtration
system itself. Unfortunately, at present, the system is only patented in
Denmark so I can only give limited technical details of the product.

At a simple level rainwater is collected from the roof, then undergoing a
new three stage filtration process and finally the clean, filtered water
is stored ready for use. The filters used are constructed out of a type of
specially shaped foam as opposed to the metal filters commonly used by
companies such as WISY. The advantage of these foam filters is that they
are low cost and low maintenance; cleaning is achieved simply by
occasionally washing the filter in a washing machine.

The "Etaperenser" filters have thoroughly been tested for durability and
efficiency in Denmark for the last couple of years - a system has been in
use in the designer's house for some time and is working well. The
inventor's hope is that the system will soon be available in a low
cost package outside of Denmark.

We'd be happy to send some rough technical diagrams of the "Etaperenser"
to anybody interested . At present one of the project group is in Denmark
talking to the inventor and we'd be willing to send any questions or
queries out to him.

Finally if anyone has any other experience or knowledge of other water
filtration systems then I'd be hugely interested in hearing about them.
Our project is primarily interested in looking at the factors and
difficulties which affect the small market for such products, not in terms
of competition between differing filtration systems. Similarly, with the
UK finally beginning to face up to responsible water usage and supply
(water metering probably coming in by the year 2000) any details of UK or
global government/agency/authority initiatives to encourage household
water conservation would be greatly appreciated.

With many thanks,

Glyn Thomas
