Re: GBlist: venting attached Garages

An extreme example of why venting garages is a good idea:

My colleague and fellow timber framer Wayne Kondor of Kondor Post & Beam
in Maine experienced a power outage last winter during a blizzard. He
went to his attached garage where he manually opened the overhead door
and proceeded to start his backup generator located in the garage, to
power the furnace and fridge, etc.
Middle of the night the power came back on and the garage door dutifully
came down. Wayne woke up, stumbled to the garage, opened the door and
passed out. He died a little while later. His neighbor was alerted to the
situation, and dragged Wayne's wife and two young doughters from the
house. They recovered.

A hard lesson learned, and a sad one. Please be careful with attached
garages.
