In the late 1960's and early 1970's realistic fictional young adult literature began depicting characters coming of age by dealing with controversial problems such as drug abuse, abortion, teen pregnancy, gang fighting, rape, and so on. Although incest is a problem that affects many young adults, particularly young women, it was not until 1985 that the topic of incest appeared in realistic fiction published for a young adult audience. |
