Title: A study on EIS data management issues and factors affecting the issues

Abstract: "The purpose of this research is to identify and explore data management issues critical to executive information systems (EIS) and factors affecting these issues. Two research methods were used in the study: (1) a series of case studies were conducted to identify EIS data management issues and factors; and (2) a questionnaire survey was used to explore some of the issues and factors in depth.

From the case studies, the following data management issues were identified as critical to EIS: data integrity, data security, data standard, data ownership, data requirements, and data preparation. The factors affecting these issues include: breadth and depth of information provided by the EIS, support of individuals involved in the EIS, and the structure of IS.

The survey study explored the three data management issues (data standards, data security, and data ownership) in conjunction with the three factors (breadth and depth of information, support of individuals, and structure of IS). Each data management issue was measured for its level of importance and difficulty as perceived by the EIS professionals at eighty-five organizations.

The study found that there is a relationship between the level of difficulty of the data management issues and the level of breadth and depth of information provided by an EIS. The study also found that the level of difficulty is correlated with the level of support from the key individuals. However, the level of importance of the data management issues did not correlate to any factors. The survey data did not support the contention that corporate IS structure measured in terms of centralization and integration is related to the EIS data management issues."
