These studies have overlooked the situational and behavioral aspects of scanning. This study uses an interactional model to examine scanning behavior. The model combines an individual variable (open-mindedness) with a situational variable (culture values) to investigate the scanning practices within a Fortune 500 firm. Initial analyses did not produce significant relationships; further analyses generated useful and statistically significant patterns. The implications of the findings for the research and practice of environmental scanning are presented. |
