Errors made during this phase often are compounded from misinterpretation in the design and implementation phases. Since it is increasingly expensive to correct these errors in later stages it is extremely important to prevent or correct them as early as possible. Thus, Information Requirements Definition (IRD) is a critical step in the SDLC. Improperly conducted, IRD will likely increase the probability of project failure and decrease the effectiveness of the existing software design and development methodologies. The IRD process, however, belongs to an ill-structured subject area. A major step toward understanding the deep structure of this process certainly would be an important contribution to systems engineering. This is the main thrust of the present research, which addresses two broad questions: (1) Are IRD techniques comparable? (2) If so, what are their common characteristics and differences? |
