ART

Art classes at Club Boulevard focus on the development of the creative spirit in each student, K-5, and are based on the North Carolina Visual Arts Standards. We use a variety of art tools, art prints, and books from grade level genres to integrate curriculum. Collaboration also occurs when the art teacher and classroom teacher develop thematic units.

Visit a Virtual Museum to view our students' art.

    MUSIC

Our Music Pavilion offers many different ways to make music. The primary music maker is the boy or girl listening, singing, moving and playing. Using traditional ethnic and Orff percussion instruments, students develop their musical abilities. They play instruments to recordings and accompany their own singing, poems, stories, or creative rhythms. Students develop their musicality by singing a variety of musical styles, learning about composers from classical to contemporary, listening to their music, reading music through songs and chants, and playing instruments.

    TECHNOLOGY

The Technology Pavilion provides instruction for students and staff in the use of 35 mm cameras, video cameras, digital cameras,  and computers. All students attend weekly classes in "lab", learning and practicing new skills such as keyboarding, word processing, database, spreadsheet, Internet use, drawing programs, and educational software. Special times are arranged throughout the week for small or large groups of students to pursue special projects.

    CULTURAL EXPLORATIONS

The Cultural Explorations Pavilion provides space for classes to explore dramatic expression.  This space is also available to visiting artists  to share their expertise with students.  Classes use the Cultural Explorations Pavilion for a variety of special projects that integrate the arts with their reading, writing, and math curriculum.

    DANCE STUDIO

Dance classes offered in the Dance Studio use the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as its foundation for instruction. Students are encouraged to learn, experience, understand, and communicate by developing their kinesthetic awareness. By nurturing the connection that exists between mind and body, dance helps students to focus and develop discipline. It provides an opportunity to integrate academic skills and creative expression. Students share, analyze, perform, and grow as they begin to understand dance as an active experience and as an art form which emphasizes aesthetic sensibility.

    DARKROOM

Here are a few thoughts from our students about photography at Club.     In Literacy Through Photography I had fun and we learned a lot. Ms. Friesen gave us cameras to take home. We could only take pictures that told about us. We had 24 pictures to take in one week. Some people took pictures of their family and pets. Other people took pictures of their bikes, churches, or special places in their houses. Some people had very interesting pictures; some were funny and others pretty. It was fun learning about photographs and taking them. Sometimes it is good to take things from different angles and other points of view. Ilearned about taking a picture and turning it into a story.
We learned how to develop film and why there can't be any light in the darkroom. Developing was the most fun. We used black bags and different chemicals. To develop the prints, we had to choose the size and shades we wanted our black and whites to be.

    STUDENT COOKING KITCHEN

Learning measurement, studying cultural traditions,  and following directions can be loads of fun when the end result is a tasty treat. Students in all grades have the opportunity to visit the kitchen and learn delicious lessons.
