The N. C. Scholastic
Media Institute is a journalism workshop in mid-June that
offers participants practical experience in broadcasting,
desktop publishing, magazine, newspaper, photojournalism
and yearbook. Students and advisers come together to learn
skills and exchange ideas. Nationally known advisers, UNC-CH
School of Journalism and Mass Communication professors and
other experts in the field, including NCSMA advisers, instruct
in NCSMI, and participants leave the Institute ready to manage
the next year's work of their publications, broadcasting
programs and darkrooms.
State
student and adviser officers, elected by NCSMA members each
year, plan workshops and NCSMI each year.
The
Association has divided North Carolina into eight geographic
regions. Workshops are held in the various regions annually.
Advisers and students are welcome in any regional workshop.
