"What is your solution to the conflict or transition from the normal shock to oblique shock?"

response:

There are two solutions/explanations. The far view is that a small change in the inclination of delta (wall inclination) will result in a normal shock (contrary to the popular believe). Increase of the delta above the critical point to ``switch/jump'' to oblique shock. The close view is some what different. In the close view (assuming that there is boundary layers) the flow undergoes isentropic transition to the critical angle above which the oblique shock occurs. This view provides the basis to the location of the ``origin'' of the oblique shock wave (again under the assumption of no boundary layers). This part isn't published for the same reason discussed in book.
