Organization Overview
The Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan “fact tank” that provides information on the issues, attitudes and trends shaping America and the world. It does so by conducting public opinion polling and social science research; analyzing news coverage; and holding forums and briefings. It does not take positions on policy issues. Its work is carried out by a“core” administrative and publishing unit and these seven projects:
• Pew Research Center for the People and the Press (people-press.org) led by Andrew Kohut
• Pew Project for Excellence in Journalism (journalism.org) led by Tom Rosenstiel
• Pew Internet & American Life Project (pewinternet.org) led by Lee Rainie
• Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (pewforum.org) led by Luis Lugo
• Pew Hispanic Center (pewhispanic.org) led by Paul Taylor
• Pew Global Attitudes Project (pewglobal.org) led by Andrew Kohut
• Pew Social & Demographic Trends (pewsocialtrends.org) led by Paul Taylor

Core Department Overview
The Pew Research Center’s core administration and publishing department provides centralized services in the areas of human resources, communications, information technology, facilities/office services, finance and accounting, as well as liaison with outside legal counsel. In addition to these basic services, core staff also create new Pew Research Center publications, maintain a Pew Research Center portal website (PewResearch.org), oversee Center-wide research projects, carry out short-term research projects, and help to incubate new
long-term projects.

Position Summary

The successful candidate is a 21st century librarian grounded in traditional research tools and savvy about new technologies. This individual will have responsibilities in two key areas: 1) information management to support multi-channel distribution and 2) resource management to support internal clients. In particular, this individual will play a key role in supporting the Center’s external dissemination to syndication and aggregation partners by creating and implementing taxonomies; establishing standards for maintaining digital assets; helping build and maintain relationships with syndication partners; and assisting in leveraging taxonomies and metadata to improve website search. In addition, this individual will play a key role in archiving reports, publications, and internal documents and providing tools and services to support Pew Research Center analysts by maintaining subscriptions; investigating new research resources; troubleshooting and training on electronic resources; and locating materials and skills training from academic libraries and other sources as required. • Manage the “care and feeding” of digital assets and exploring options for a management system.
• Participate in a work group, which will include project, IT and Communications staff, to develop and manage a proprietary taxonomy, ensuring compatibility with the Center’s multiple websites, and a plan for content management.
• Work with project and Communications staff to use taxonomy and metadata to improve web search results and search engine optimization.
• Work with the Special Assistant for Records Management to develop and maintain a system for archiving internal documents.
• Ensure that publications are appropriately archived, working with other Core staffers on document retention requirements.
• Work with the various departments to develop a disaster preparedness plan for knowledge assets.
• Serve as primary contact for identifying and administering new research tools and services, including managing contracts and passwords and providing troubleshooting and training.
• Maintain key relationships, liaising with Research and Records staff at Pew Research Center’s parent organization, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and cultivating relationships with outside libraries to support the Center’s academic research needs.
• Organize trainings related to research skills and tools, working with staff and outside trainers.

Required Education/Experience
• M.L.S. from ALA-accredited library science program.
• Five or more years of experience working in a special library environment.
• Database and content management experience.
• Experience in content licensing and syndication, and familiarity with prospective content partners.
