Southern Village music series set to begin

Market Street in Southern Village kicks off its 5th Annual Sunday Music Series on May 13th on the Village Green. Performances are every Sunday evening at 7 p.m. May 13 through August 26. All concerts are open to the public.|

The opening concert, co-sponsored by the ArtsCenter and Southern Village, features Irish vocalist and Grammy nominee, Maura O’Connell. O’Connell, who performed a stellar show last year at the ArtsCenter, shifts styles from tunes of old Ireland to new jazz and pop. Tickets are $16, $14 for ArtsCenter friends and are available at www.artscenterlive.
org.


The schedule for the Southern Village Music Series is:

  • 5/20 – The Old Ceremony
    Django Haskins leads this “Pop Noir” band ($5)
  • 5/27 – The Magnolia Klezmer Band
    Eastern European Jewish music blended with jazz and swing
  • 6/03 – Bollywood Masti – “Passage to India Night”
    Ethnic fusion of hip-hop, funk and bhangra.
  • 6/10 – The Long Leaf Opera
    One-Act Vocal Competition
  • 6/13 – June Southern Village
    Talent Show hosted by La Petite Fromage
  • 6/17 – Three Great Guitarists
    Will McFarlane, Armand Lencchek and Danny Gotham
  • 6/24 – Two Dollar Pistols
    Country and Honky Tonk ($5)
  • 7/01 – The Nomads
    Classic Beach Music ($5)
  • 7/08 – The Doc Branch Band
    Great Bluegrass
  • 7/15 – The Will McBride Group
    Jazz/Rock Fusion
  • 7/18 – July Southern Village
    Talent Show hosted by the Water Callers
  • 7/22 – The Decatur Street Beat Dixieland Band
    New Orleans Jazz
  • 7/29 – The Durham Savoyards
    Gilbert and Sullivan meet Broadway
  • 8/05 – Laura Ridgeway

  • 8/08 – August Southern Village Talent Show hosted by the Bull City Six Shooters
  • 8/12 – The Ramblers
    Legendary NC String Band ($5)
  • 8/19 – Susan Reeves
    Jazz with one of the Triangle’s finest vocalists
  • 8/26 – The Carolina Harmony Chorus
    Women’s A Capella vocal stylings

The music series is sponsored by Harrington Bank, the Market Street Association and the Southern Village Homeowners Association.
