Football coach to meet with prospective players
The new football coach at Carrboro High School will visit with prospective players in Chapel Hill and Carrboro this week.
Coach Jason Tudryn will meet with students in the Culbreth Middle School cafeteria on Thursday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and with students in the McDougle Middle School cafeteria on Friday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. In addition, Tudryn will meet current Chapel Hill High School athletes who are transferring to Carrboro High in the Chapel Hill High media center on Friday evening from 6-7 p.m.
Tudryn comes to Carrboro from Gulf Coast High School in Naples, Fl., where he served as football coach and exceptional education teacher.
Area teacher receives recognition
Rashkis Elementary fifth-grade teacher Diane Moser is one of 25 teachers recognized in the RBC Centura/ACC “Tribute to Teachers†program.
Moser and the other 24 teachers were selected from more than 1,800 teachers from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida who were nominated between Dec. 1 and March 11.
Parents of students in Moser’s class submitted nomination essays noting her love of reading, literature, art and history, as well as her innovative assignments and classroom time set aside for reading.
Moser will receive $500 to be used for classroom materials and supplies and is eligible for the grand prize of a $2,000 shopping spree at Stone Education Superstore in Raleigh.
Memorial service set to honor Scroggs
A memorial service to celebrate the life of longtime board of education member Mary Scroggs is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Carol Woods Retirement Center.
Scroggs, who served on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education from 1961-77, died on April 13 at the age of 85. She is known for her work toward desegregating the school district and for the construction of several schools.
Scroggs is survived by four children, Jan, Ross, Max and Steve, who is assistant superintendent for support services in the school district. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A reception in the Carol Woods social lounge will follow the celebration. Carol Woods is located at 750 Weaver Dairy Road in Chapel Hill.
