Charrette for new northern fire station scheduled

Posted on May 10, 2007 by Staff

Carrboro Fire Department officials have announced the date for a pubic design charrette for the town’s new fire station.

The new station — dubbed fire station number two for now — is located at 1411 Homestead Road and will provide fire protection and medical response to the citizens in the Northern Transition Area.

The new station is the first municipal building project undertaken by the town since 1981, when the current fire station, at 301 West Main Street, was built.

Plans are for the facility to house an engine company and four firefighters around the clock.  There will also be work spaces for Carrboro Police officers.

The design charrette is scheduled for Monday, May 21 in the Great Hall of the Carrboro Century Center at 100 North Greensboro Street, from 7-10 p.m. Citizens are invited offer input on the project.

Fire department officials may plan a second charrette if necessary.
