The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund has awarded Orange County a $500,000 grant for the construction of a new community park in the Cedar Grove township.
The county had applied for the grant in order to supplement county funds needed for the expansion of facilities behind the Northern Human Services Center on N.C. Highway 86.
The park is proposed to include a ball field, basketball courts, a multi-purpose field, a picnic shelter, hiking trails, a playground and a gravel walking track. It’s designed to complement the Northern Human Services Center, which has a branch library, senior center, pottery studio and child daycare center and offers Head Start and Work First Readiness Program services.
The county is soliciting bids for construction of the park, which is projected to begin in July and last about a year.
