Posted on July 12, 2007 by Staff

Dr. Randall Williams Evans, 51, died unexpectedly on July 6 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC, surrounded by family and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Randy was born to Robert B. and Elizabeth N. Evans on September 1, 1955 in Minneapolis, MN. Growing up in Atlanta, Randy attended Christ the King School and Westminster Academy. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1977, received a masters degree from Trinity College in San Antonio, and received a PhD from United States International University in San Diego. He obtained a post-doctoral fellowship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dedicating his career on behalf of persons with neurological difficulties, Dr. Evans was a national leader in the study and treatment of brain injuries. A neuropsychologist by training, Randy conducted research, championed clinical innovations, supported families, advocated and administered programs that deliver rehabilitation services and supports for persons with disabilities. He held executive roles at Learning Services Corp. and the MENTOR Network, both of which provide rehabilitation services on a national scale. At the culmination of his career, Dr. Evans traveled the country as a national speaker, providing clinical presentations and consultations for consumers, families and professionals in his field. A recipient of multiple national awards, Dr. Evans was founder and president of Randall Evans & Associates, specialists in neuro-health, in Chapel Hill, NC. Randy’s leadership, personal presentation style and endless advocacy to create long-term supports for persons with brain injury will be greatly missed.

An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, Randy enjoyed Tar Heel basketball and the Atlanta Braves. He was generous of spirit and his wit and humor endeared him to all.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth N. Evans of Atlanta; spouse, Jenny Lee Evans of Chapel Hill; his son, Kyle Hunter Evans and his daughter, Madison Elise Evans of Chapel Hill; his brothers Barton N. Evans and wife, Phyllis, of New Orleans, Richard E. Evans of Bowdon, GA and Robert H. Evans and wife, Betsy, of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by two nephews and a niece: Harry Evans, Robert Evans and Elizabeth Evans.
