Obituary – Robert “Pete” Leon Blitchington, Sr.

Robert “Pete” Leon Blitchington, Sr. died Tuesday, July 11th at his home on the Womble Farm, Damascus Church Road in Chapel Hill.  He was 71.

Pete was born in Augusta, Georgia on December 21, 1935 to the late James and Thelma Davis Blitchington.  At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for 20 years.  Pete was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Pete retired from military service in 1972 and worked in the commercial insurance industry.

Survivors include his former wife, Joan Fama Blitchington, three sons Robert Jr. and David of Chapel Hill, and Peter of Wrentham, MA.  Five grandchildren include Joshua, Luke, Kasey, Nicholas and Nathan.  He was predeceased by a brother and sister, James and Bonnie.

Funeral services and burial took place on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Damascus Congregational Christian Church, 522 Damascus Church Road.
