Workshop offered on floodplain maps
Chapel Hill Stormwater Management will offer a free workshop on floodplain maps on Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Chapel Hill Public Library.
Workshop participants will learn how to access Chapel Hill flood insurance rate map information online. New floodplain maps became effective in Chapel Hill on Feb. 2.

Chapel Hill recognized for financial reporting
Chapel Hill has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
This is the 21st year that Chapel Hill has won the award, which recognizes excellence in the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report.
Chapel Hill is one of 23 municipalities that won both the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Financial Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada.
Volunteers needed for Transit group
Chapel Hill Transit is looking for citizens to serve on an advisory committee to help review the operation of its Demand Response Division, which includes EZ Rider, Shared Ride and Feeder Service.
Chapel Hill Transit is reviewing operating policies and procedures of the Demand Response service in order to improve service and become more cost effective.
The citizens advisory committee will meet over the next six months to review policies and make recommendations for improvements. Residents who are interested in serving on this committee should contact Chapel Hill Transit at 969-4900 or transportation@townofchapelhill.org.
Town receives NC Big Sweep Award
Chapel Hill’s Stormwater Management Division recently received an award for outstanding community involvement from North Carolina Big Sweep.
More than 200 volunteers collected five tons of trash in Orange County during the annual litter clean up last fall. In addition, McDougle Middle School student Linnea Lieth won first prize for her illustration submitted to Big Sweep’s book cover contest. Her illustration will be reproduced on the cover of “Undercurrents,†a middle school teacher guide to litter prevention.
