IFC hires new development director
The Inter-Faith Council for Social Service has hired Kimberly Shaw as the agency’s new development director.
Shaw started work on Monday. She has nearly 20 years of experience in development and marketing in the nonprofit sector and also has worked for the Carolina Theatre, the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science and the North Carolina Center for Voter Education.
Community members are invited to meet Shaw on Wednesday, August 15 from 3-4 p.m. at the IFC’s second-floor conference room at 110 W. Main Street in Carrboro.
Small fire at OWASA
A small fire occurred at OWASA’s Jones Ferry Road water treatment plant early Wednesday morning. No one was hurt and OWASA services to customers were not affected.
The fire affected control equipment for some pumps at the treatment plant, but other pumps remain in operation and OWASA continues to have adequate capacity to pump drinking water.
According to OWASA officials, Carrboro fire and police departments responded very quickly to the fire.

Chapel Hill street resurfacing
The Town of Chapel Hill began its annual street resurfacing program on Monday. The project is expected to take about six weeks to complete, but equipment failure or bad weather could extend the duration of the project.

The following streets are planned for resurfacing or milling: Arcadia Lane, Arlington Street, Bonsail Place, Brooks Street, Chapel Street, Chesley Lane, Cloister Court, Country Club Road, Cumberland Road, Deming Road, Derby Lane, Dogwood Acres Drive, Elizabeth Street, Gomains Avenue, Greenwood Road, Hillsborough Street, Houston Road, Jay Street, Longview Street, Overlook Point, Rosemary Street, Sierra Drive, Steeplechase Road, Sugarberry Road, Tamalpais Point, Velma Road, Village Drive and Willow Drive.
