Gallagher honored
James Gallagher, Ph.D., was honored as a leader in gifted education by the World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. Gallagher is a former director and current senior scientist emeritus of the FPG Child Development Institute.

He received the 2007 Harry Passow Leadership Award at the Council’s 23rd world conference. The international award recognizes a person whose life and work have significantly influenced policy and practices in gifted education and who has made an outstanding contribution in promoting the cause of gifted education worldwide.

Rabies Day activities
The Orange County Animal Services Department and the Orange County Health Department will sponsor low-cost rabies vaccination clinics and a lecture on rabies as part of World Rabies Day.

The Animal Services Department will offer two low-cost rabies clinics from 1 to 2 p.m. on September 8, which is World Rabies Day, at the Orange County Animal Shelter in Chapel Hill and at the Government Services Annex parking lot in Hillsborough.

In addition, animal services will offer a low-cost clinic for one-year vaccinations on September 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orange County Animal Shelter.

Public health veterinarian Carl Williams will give a lecture on rabies at the Southern Human Services Center on Homestead Road on September 4 at 7 p.m.
