When chefs shop
The Carrboro Farmers’ Market will hold its sixth annual “Chefs Who Shop the Carrboro Farmers’ Market†event on September 8.
Six chefs who regularly shop at the market will create Southern fare-inspired dishes using ingredients available at the market.
Participating chefs include:
- Kevin Callaghan of Acme;
- Jonathan Childres and Damon Lapas of The Barbecue Joint;
- Charlie Deal of JuJuBe;
- Bret Jennings of Elaine’s;
- Andrea Reusing of Lantern; and
- Amy Tornquist of Sage & Swift Catering and Watt’s Grocery.
Market shoppers will be able to sample dishes and take home recipes. The event will start at 9 a.m. and last until the food runs out.
The theme for this year’s event is “Southern Fare,†in honor of the region and of Southern Foodways Alliance’s Camp Carolina in Chapel Hill September 8-9.
Solar Electricty 101
Local green building experts will offer an introduction to solar electricity course from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on September 8 at the Pittsboro campus of Central Carolina Community College.
Builders and consumers alike will learn about modern solar technologies during this half-day course, which will be taught by Ed Witkin of Carrboro Solar Works and Bob Kingery of Southern Energy Management.
The course is the second in the green building series conducted by GreenPros in collaboration with CCCC. GreenPros was formed to present workshops on green building design and construction for constructional professionals and the general public.
Cost is $40. To register for the workshop, contact CCCC at 542-6495, ext. 223. Participants may also register onsite 30 minutes prior to the workshop, which will be held in the Building 2 multipurpose room.
