The drive is collecting book bags, calculators, crayons, folders, glue, markers, notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, rulers and scissors. Donations will also be accepted in the form of personal checks.

Seniors fitness center fees set
The Board of County Commissioners approved on Tuesday the fee structure for the fitness studio at the new Seymour Center for seniors.
Membership to the fitness center is $180 a year for seniors 60 and older, if paid in one lump sum. For those aged 55 to 59, membership is $240 a year. If paid monthly, the membership fee is $20 a month for those 60 and older and $30 for those 55 to 59.
All members will be required to complete an initial physical function screen and an equipment orientation session, which carries a one-time $20 fee.
The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. During peak times, machine use will be limited to 30 minutes each.
3-R boost
The annual 3-R fee — for waste reduction, recycle and reuse — that the county charges on improved properties has increased this year.
The increase will fund a greater percentage of recycling program costs as well as program expansions.
The fee for urban curbside recycling has increased from $39 to $44 a year. The increase will help fund costs associated with the addition of mixed paper to the weekly collection. The basic fee for recycling center use has increased from $34 to $37 per unit of improved property a year.
