District unveils new web presence
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools have unveiled a new web presence for 2007-08.
The web page remains at the same address, www.chcs.k12.nc.us. The revamp follows several months of work on the part of the design committee, the superintendent’s cabinet and the district’s web architect, Scott Latimore.
The project completely reorganizes much of the district’s electronic content and places links to the content in a number of different locations, making information easier to access.
A first tier of the work has been completed in time for the start of the new school year. Work on additional tiers of content will continue as the school year progresses.
The new banner on the home page was designed to emphasize the district’s place in the global community and to underscore the district’s commitment to preparing students for success in the 21st century.
Comments and feedback on the new website are welcome and may be directed to Latimore at slatimore@chcs.k12.nc.us.
Special Needs Advisory Council
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools sponsor the Special Needs Advisory Council (SNAC) to provide parents with an opportunity to work together with district staff in providing services to students with special needs.
SNAC has a number of responsibilities. The group studies educational issues related to special children’s needs and writes reports on its findings to the superintendent; provides information to and solicits information from parents; advocates for program improvements; and promotes communication in the special needs community and the community at large.
The council chartered four teams during the 2006-07 school year: training, adaptation of curriculum, transition and advocacy.
Parents are encouraged to get involved by contacting their school’s SNAC representative. Meetings of representatives from across the district are held on a monthly basis. For more information about SNAC, please visit www2.chccs.k12.nc.us/education/staff/staff.php?sectionid=988.
School lunch prices increase
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools breakfast prices have increased five cents and lunch prices 10 cents for 2007-08.
Breakfast is now $1.05. Adults pay $1.50.
An elementary lunch is $2.40, while a secondary lunch is $2.65. Adults pay $3.25 for lunch. Price increases do not affect those students receiving free and reduced lunch benefits.
Delayed-opening dates
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools conduct one delayed opening during most months of the school year.
The 2007-2008 delayed-opening dates are:
- September 20
- October 18
- December 13
- January 31
- February 28
- April 17
- May 15
On these dates, schools will open two hours later than normal. Elementary schools start at 9:50, middle schools at 10:20 and high schools at 10:45.
Delayed openings are held to provide teachers with time for professional development and collaborative planning after the state eliminated five full teacher workdays from school calendars. This will be the third year for delayed openings.
On the last day of school, Tuesday, June 10, the district will observe a two-hour early release.
