Giant cookie to raise money for ArtsCenter
Immaculate Baking Company and Weaver Street Market plan to bake a 500-pound giant chocolate chip cookie September 15-16 to raise money for the ArtsCenter.
The 10-foot-wide cookie will be made with more than 95 pounds of chocolate chips, 375 eggs and 165 pounds of flour. Pieces of the cookie will be sold for a suggested donation of $10 and all proceeds will benefit children in the ArtsCenter’s community through scholarships to art classes, AfterSchool Arts Immersion, summer camp and school show programs.
The cookie will be baked from 12-2 p.m. on September 15 at Weaver Street Market in Southern Village and from 12-2 p.m. on September 16 at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro, where it will be unveiled around 2 p.m.
Sunday’s festivities will also include face painting, balloons, folk-art henna tattoos, music by the Walker Street Fiddlers and ice cream from Maple View Farm. In addition, a rare painting by local artist Clyde Jones will be raffled off. Raffle tickets are available at both Weaver Street Market locations and the winner will be announced September 16 at 2 p.m. in Carrboro.
Immaculate Baking holds the Guinness record for baking the world’s biggest cookie, which measured 100 feet in diameter and weighed more than 40,000 pounds.
