District collects community input with meeting, survey
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools will hold a meeting on September 27 to collect input for the district’s new strategic plan.
In addition, school officials have created an online survey for community members to respond to three questions:
- What is the one area in which the district needs to improve in order to be considered a highly successful, forward-thinking school district?
- What is the greatest external challenge facing the district?
- What is the greatest internal challenge facing the district?
- The survey has been emailed to parents and staff members and is available at www.chccs.k12.nc.us.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith Middle School auditorium.
College Fair
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools and Orange County Schools on Tuesday will hold the third annual college fair for high school juniors and seniors from Orange County.
More than 100 colleges, universities, community colleges and military, technical and specialty schools will be represented. In addition, the College Foundation of North Carolina will host a booth at the fair.

Senator goes back to school
Sen. Ellie Kinnaird will attend classes at Culbreth Middle School on Friday morning as part of the “America’s Legislators Return to School Project.â€
The project is sponsored by the National Education Association and its local affiliates, the North Carolina Association of Educators and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Association of Educators.
From 8 to 11 a.m., Kinnaird will participate in several classes and serve duty in the halls.
The project is designed to provide state and federal leaders with the opportunity to experience issues facing American public education firsthand.
Laughing Turtle to host fundraiser
The Laughing Turtle will host a fundraiser for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation on September 20 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Wine and cheese will be served and 20 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the foundation.
