The Mill: 8/20/07

Posted on September 20, 2007 by Staff

Odd thing, fly-overs. Seems to be a trend at Kenan now.

Off and on for the past few years, we’ve had the F-15s roaring through town during the State-Carolina game. Last week, it was Apache helicopters swooping in just before kickoff for the Virginia game. In this town, such displays always engender debate.

While the humans are divided, the squirrels are not. You’ve never heard a more irritated bunch of rodentia than those last week under the flight path of the “Sound of Freedom.”

One other stadium note: You’d think a football program that can hire a coach at a million plus and is intent on hitting the top ten could afford to fix its clock. For those stuck out of view of the Jumbotron, the last quarter was baffling. Oh, and the sound sucks, too.

Thursday is the last day to submit movies for the Carrboro Film Festival. So get with it, Herzog, time’s about run out, but you must meet this requirement: “All filmmakers have to have breathed in the good air of Orange County, NC, USA sometime in their life.”

Got so focused on those ribs, last week’s Mill forgot to note that the OCSC Annual this Sunday (Sept. 23) has music by Fin Fang  Foom, Transportation, Spider bags and Robo Sapien. Did we mention corndogs by Acme and baked treats by Let Them Eat Cake?
