Posted on October 11, 2007October 11, 2007 by Staff

Amy Rickard, principal of Glenwood Elementary and future principal of the new elementary school, has been named Principal of the Year for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.

Rickard will begin her work planning for the new elementary school on November 1. The school is under construction at the intersection of Dromoland and Eubanks roads and is scheduled to open in August 2008.

As principal of the year, Rickard will represent the district in a regional competition.

“Results from the Harris Interactive survey show that Amy creates a positive environment in her school for students, staff and parents,” Superintendent Neil Pedersen said. “At the same time, Glenwood made significant achievement gains on End-of-Grade tests last year under her leadership. She will represent the district well in the Wachovia Principal of the Year Awards.”

She has served as principal of Glenwood since July 2004. Before coming to Glenwood, Rickard served as assistant principal at both Rashkis Elementary and McDougle Elementary. She was a language arts teacher at Kannapolis Middle School before entering administration.

Rickard holds a bachelor’s degree in English education and psychology and a master’s degree in school administration, both from UNC.
