Hike-a-thon
The Justin Coleman Foundation will host a memorial hike-a-thon on Saturday at noon at the NC Botanical Gardens.
Participants will meet at the Totten Center at the gardens for a 1-, 3- or 10-mile hike.
Those who hike 10 miles will be treated with ice cream. Donations will be accepted and proceeds will benefit Camp ReLEAF, the Carolina Donor Services and Outward Bound.
Coleman, the son of Chapel Hill residents Julie and William Coleman, was killed in an automobile accident in Australia in 2003. He was an avid hiker and organ donor, and his organ donations helped save the lives of 23 people. Â
Benefit show
Cat’s Cradle will host a concert Friday to benefit the victims of the Highland Hills apartment building fire, which displaced some 20 residents, injured two and killed one.
Performers are Birds & Arrows, Michael Holland, Sweet By And By, Puritan Radio and Definitely the Maybes. The doors open at 7 and the show is at 8. Entry is free but donations are welcome and will be distributed to displaced ex-residents of the building by the Red Cross.
